Abby and Jay’s Cumberland Island engagement session was everything a photographer dreams of, romantic, adventurous, and full of meaningful details.

Their love story began just like many modern romances, online. After Abby added Jay on Facebook (they had nearly 200 mutual friends), he added her on Snapchat a few days later. It didn’t take long for sparks to fly. Within a week, he invited her to dinner at a cozy seafood restaurant on the water in St. Marys, Georgia. That first date became a yearly tradition. They return every year on their anniversary to relive it.

A Proposal by the Water

Abby and Jay started dating in June 2022. Then, on July 3rd, 2024, Jay proposed in the sweetest way. While Abby was heading to his parents’ house to pick him up, he called and asked her to help load some chairs from the dock. When she got close, she found him waiting on one knee. Just the two of them, with the river behind him and sunlight filtering through the trees. It was heartfelt, intimate, and exactly what Abby had hoped for.

Later that day, Jay surprised her again. He had secretly planned a celebration at his parents’ house with both their families. There were gifts, cake, and so much joy. It was the perfect way to begin their next chapter.

Why They Chose a Cumberland Island Engagement Session

Abby and Jay love spending time outdoors together, fishing, boating, and exploring, so when Abby mentioned Cumberland Island for their engagement session, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. It’s one of their favorite places to boat to. After hearing how special it is to them, I was beyond excited to experience it for the first time myself.

We met at a boat ramp in St. Marys and took a quick 15-minute ride over to the island. From the moment we stepped onto the shore, it felt like stepping into another world, wild horses, Spanish moss, and peaceful stretches of untouched beach.

Exploring the Island Together

Abby wore a breezy white dress that danced with the wind, while Jay kept things timeless in khakis and a button-down. We wandered under oak canopies, and strolled along the shoreline while the golden light dipped lower in the sky. The entire afternoon felt relaxed, romantic, and completely true to who they are as a couple.

This Cumberland Island engagement session captured more than just beautiful photos. It reflected the peaceful, adventurous spirit Abby and Jay share. And from the wind in Abby’s hair to the sun slipping below the horizon, it’s a session I’ll never forget, and I know they won’t either.
