This Driftwood Beach Family Session took place at Big Talbot Island State Park in Jacksonville, Florida, one of the most unique coastal locations in Northeast Florida. From the moment we arrived, weathered driftwood lined the shoreline, creating a setting that felt natural, quiet, and beautifully untouched. As the sun lowered, a calm January evening brought soft winter light and warm sunshine. Because of that, the beach became the perfect backdrop for a relaxed family session by the sea.

Big Talbot Island is a hidden gem known for its sculptural driftwood trees and wild coastal charm. In many ways, the shoreline feels timeless and organic, which allows families to slow down and connect. For that reason, this Driftwood Beach Family Session reflected everything I love about coastal photography, including movement, texture, and genuine moments.

For this session, the family chose an array of soft blue tones for their outfits. Together, each shade complemented the ocean and winter sky while keeping the overall look cohesive. At the same time, the color palette blended effortlessly with the coastal landscape. As a result, their connection remained the focal point throughout the session.

A January Evening Along the Coast

One thing I always hope for during sessions is good weather, and fortunately, we truly lucked out. The sunshine stayed with us throughout the evening and, in turn, added a warm glow to the driftwood and shoreline. Additionally, January sessions often bring cooler air and softer light, which makes them ideal for beach photography.

What we didn’t expect were the no-see-ums that decided to join us. Even so, the family stayed present and playful. Rather than letting it distract us, we kept moving and shared laughs. Ultimately, we embraced the moment and captured a gallery filled with joyful images they can proudly display in their home.
